FICH Aligns Interventions with Oyam District at Annual Budget Conference

As part of its commitment to supporting the Oyam District Local Government’s development goals, FICH participated in the Oyam District Budget Conference, a requirement by the Government of Uganda. Representing FICH, Victoria Harriet Anyango, Program Manager for Education, presented the organization’s ongoing and planned interventions for the upcoming financial year.

Key Initiatives by FICH in Oyam District:

• Teacher Training: 45 primary school teachers trained in child-centered teaching methods and material development to improve classroom delivery.
• Student Life Skills Development: 240 students across three secondary schools trained in essential life skills. More students will be enrolled this financial year as well
• Remedial Education Support: Remedial classes provided in 16 primary schools across Oyam District.
• Leadership Exposure Visits: Organized educational visits to Abalokweri Primary School in Apac district for school leaders to foster learning and management improvements.
• Youth Empowerment in Horticulture: 150 youths trained in horticulture, with 57 now actively practicing and training community members.
• Women’s Economic Empowerment: Over 310 women trained in business skills, financial literacy, digital skills, loan schemes, and saving practices. This is implemented under VOICE department
• Malaria Prevention Initiatives: Engaged in malaria prevention through activities like distributing mosquito nets.
• Foundational Learning Support: FICH will scale up this support in 32 primary schools to bolster foundational learning and in three secondary schools( Acaba, Everest and Atapara) to enhance life and value skills development.
• Comprehensive Teacher Training: 288 primary school teachers across the district trained to strengthen education quality.
• Parental Engagement for Better Learning Outcomes: Reached 10,800 parents through training, dialogues, and meetings to support improved learning outcomes for children.

These initiatives are made possible through FICH’s invaluable partnerships with Oyam District authorities, donors, and other supporters.

Oyam District Chairperson Benson Dilla expressed his gratitude to all development partners for their continuous support to the district. Representing the District Education Office, Benson Ongom, Inspector of Schools, thanked FICH for being a reliable partner in education, noting that the data FICH collects aids the district in making informed decisions.
