GRIC Africa’s Uganda Partners Hail M&E and Documentation Training

The recent Documentation, Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL), and Report Writing training, organized by GRIC Africa for its Uganda partners-FICH, CFI, AYDI, and DEPCOT at Genade Comfort Hotel, Lira City was a great experience, equipping participants with practical skills to elevate their work.

Denis Opio, M&E Officer at FICH, described the training as a hands-on opportunity for continuous self-learning, stating, “M&E is a practical session; we can keep learning and become experts.” The inclusion of program officers and managers brought a collaborative learning environment.

Daniel Okullu, Executive Director of DEPCOT, expressed gratitude to FICH and GRIC Africa, noting, “This training has changed my team. We will consult one another moving forward.” Similarly, Moses Ricky Ojok, Executive Director of AYDI, emphasized that his team gained invaluable insights that will strengthen them going forward.

Winnie Aol, Program Officer at FICH, shared her newfound confidence in delivering comprehensive reports and supporting the M&E department with high-quality data. The training also highlighted the importance of effective documentation and communication. Chris Oluge, M&E Consultant, offered practical advice: “Report writing is everyone’s responsibility, but managers can refine it. Photos and videos complement each other, and photo consent is critical.” He further encouraged the organisations to maintain updated web pages, coordinate closely with communications departments, keep newsletters concise, and adopt a documentation checklist for all activities.

GRIC Uganda Program Coordinator Patrick Ocen pledged GRIC’s commitment to Institutional strengthening of partners’ capacity and tasked the partners to put into practice, demonstrate, and showcase a difference in their operations, given the skills acquired.

The training supported by GRIC Africa strengthened the capacity of FICH, CFI, AYDI, and DEPCOT MEAL and Program Managers to drive meaningful change in the community through improved M&E practices and storytelling of program impacts.

  1. It’s a continuous learning, we should implement and emphasize on the activities and follow up should be done since documentation is key, the data should be completed, correct, corresponds which will not lead to any discrepancy. Thanks by Ambrose omona.
