why karacel library?
In the remote communities of Oyam District in Uganda, a lack of quality education, limited access to information, and poor reading culture contribute to high levels of unemployment and hinder community members from reaching their full potential. The absence of reading resources, libraries, and information and communication technologies further worsens these challenges, negatively impacting the political, social, economic, and cultural aspects of the community. Despite efforts by NGOs and the government to address this issue through public libraries, school libraries, and social media platforms, significant gaps remain. In Oyam District specifically, the absence of a public library and ICT center severely limit individuals' access to learning, knowledge, skills, and information. To bridge this gap, there is an urgent need for the establishment of a well-equipped library and ICT facility in the district, allowing adults, youth, professionals, and children to improve their reading culture, acquire knowledge and skills, and access vital information. FICH Uganda aims to address this critical need by spearheading the development of such a facility in Oyam District.
Together, we can break down barriers and provide individuals in Oyam with the tools and resources they need to thrive. Through access to educational materials, a comfortable learning environment, and opportunities for digital literacy, we empower individuals to unlock their full potential and pursue their dreams.
