Foundational Learning

FICH through gender transformative interventions, address systematic disparities in foundational literacy and numeracy among marginalized primary school-aged girls and boys in post conflict northern Uganda. By implementing evident based pedagogical methodologies and foster multi-stakeholders partnerships, FICH contributes meaningfully to the improvement of foundational learning outcomes through Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) and Remedial classes.

Early Childhood Care Development and Education

FICH is working hand-in-hand with an underserved rural community to establish a transformative Early Childhood Care, Development, and Education (ECCD) Center—a first-of-its-kind resource in an area that currently has no access to early childhood education.

Leadership, Education, Access and Discovery (LEAD)

The LEAD program equips vulnerable secondary school girls with essential life skills using a Social Emotional Learning (SEL) framework. It focuses on three core areas: understanding oneself (self-awareness, self-management), understanding others (social awareness, relationship skills), and discovering opportunities (responsible decision-making). Through this approach, girls develop critical skills and values such as emotional intelligence, integrity, assertiveness, empathy, and problem-solving—preparing them for both life’s challenges and future employment.

Parental Engagement and Empowerment (PE&E)

FICH empowers parents with the skills and knowledge to actively support their children’s education both at home and in the community. Using a tested PE&E framework and gender-responsive training, we help parents understand the equal importance of education for both girls and boys. As a result, families create more supportive home learning environments and become more engaged in school activities and community forums. Our impact is measured through increased parental participation in school meetings, training sessions, and reported improvements in home-based learning.

Discovery Boot Camp

FICH’s 10–14 day residential Discovery Bootcamp, part of the LEAD Education program, brings together Senior 2, 3, and 5 girls from partner schools in Oyam District. Held at partner school venues, the camp builds life skills through team-based learning, leadership, mindfulness, and mentorship. Parents are invited to witness and support their daughters’ growth, sharing impact stories that contribute to the program’s ongoing documentation and success.
